Fortnite originally started life out as a Fortnite: Save the World, a PvE game which was released in early access in 2017. A few months later a free Battle Royale spin-off launched, which is the mode that ended up becoming a worldwide phenomenon.

What began as a third-person shooter mixed with building elements has bit-by-bit been transformed into a live service behemoth, with numerous themed seasons and chapters, live in-game events and concerts, plus much more found in Fortnite Creative which lets users create their very own experiences.
