I see a thing that I love, like VR, and I like to imagine the best outcomes for it. You know, like Sony actually bringing a new Astrobot to the PS VR2, or say, smaller, lighter, cheaper headsets for all. Obviously I'm disappointed every time - newer headsets seem to be getting impossibly expensive and, well, of course Sony's gone done a Sony with the PS VR2.

One of my biggest dreams though, is that one day, in the future, every game released would come with a hybrid VR mode. A simple toggle at the start, like Capcom put in Resident Evil 7, that gives players the choice to either experience the game in VR, or enjoy it in flat screen on whatever TV or monitor they choose.

While this dream seems like a distant improbability, we do at least get to enjoy a taster of this fantasy thanks to Praydog's magical UEVR mod, which lets you convert any UE4 or UE5 game into VR at the click of a button. Sure, not every game runs perfectly and there's plenty of fiddling that can be done in the mod's menus to iron out the creases but still, for this week's VR Corner I was able to play a demo of a game that's not even fully released yet in both third person and first person VR.

Thrasher feels like a psychedelic cross between Fruit Ninja Kinect and Child of Eden

Remember the Kinect? Back when it was known as 'Project Natal' I had some pretty lofty hopes for the tech. To be fair, those hopes were probably made a little more lofty by some tech demos that were, well, let's just say... slightly economical with the truth.

When Kinect came out it was a big bag of broken, but, there were some games on there that came close to greatness. I had a whale of a time with Fruit Ninja Kinect and would often whip it out (ooer) at house parties, while Ubisoft's Child of Eden was a certified banger.

And that leads me on to Thrasher, the spiritual successor to Thumper, which has just released on Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro. As you'll see in this week's episode of VR Corner, Thrasher eschews Thumper's industrially soundtracked uphill toboggan ride of doom and instead opts for a gameplay loop that is one part Fruit Ninja and one part Child of Eden. With a bit of Jeff Minter-y psychedelia thrown in for good measure too.

Watch Ian explore the new fan-made Fallout: London mod in today's livestream

UPDATE: Now going live from 2:15pm BST (which is very soon!)

Pour yourselves a lovely hot cuppa, Fallout fans because the long awaited fan-made mod Fallout: London has finally arrived and I'll be attempting to stream the first couple of hours of the game from around 3pm BST today.

I say 'attempting' and 'around' as the download has just gone live and it's a beef(eater)y 33GB download. It's been rather hectic in video land recently and I also had a few days off here and there (selfish, I know) which made it hard to find time to put together site posts. I haven't been so slack over on the YouTube channel though, so here's a little rundown of the previous three weeks worth of VR coverage.

It's been a long time since a PSVR2 review code has appeared in my inbox but, two weeks ago, I was able to check out the first-person, tower defence VR game Captain Toonhead vs The Punks From Outer Space.

Developed by Columbian studio Teravision Games, the team behind the recently released Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, Captain Toonhead is a much more family friendly video game that features a light-hearted storyline and a nice VR twist on the old tower defence formula.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is an inoffensive Hades clone with a focus on co-op play

Cowabunga, friends! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is out on Nintendo Switch today and, as you can see in the video above, Jim Trinca and I took an early look at the first 90 minutes of the game in two player co-op for yesterday's live stream.

Splintered Fate has actually been available on the Apple Arcade for over a year now, where it's recieved a lot of positive reviews. Many of these reviews liken its roguelike gameplay to a multiplayer version of Hades, and that's the exact vibe we got when we took it for a spin. Splintered Fate is absolutely a Hades clone, but it does it well and it is fun to play, despite the fact that its mobile roots are fairly easy to see.

The Switch version does bring a few new changes though, the visuals and the audio have been improved for the console release and couch co-op for up to 4 players has also been added. Which is pretty cool considering that would only be possible on a mobile phone if you had either, like, a massive phone or a bunch of friends with really tiny fingers.

Chained Together is highly entertaining in VR thanks to Praydog's UEVR mod

Praydog's UEVR mod is absolutely astonishing. The fact that I could use it to instantly give current internet darling Chained Together a fully playable VR mode just blows my mind. This incredible mod injector doesn't work perfectly for every Unreal Engine 4/5 game (I wanted to do Still Wakes the Deep this week but it's a bit flakey for me) but, as you'll see in this week's VR Corner, Chained Together basically felt like it was made for VR.

Sure, there are no motion controls or first person viewpoint with it, but the sense of distance, depth and scale brought by the 6DoF VR meant that I found it much easier to judge the jumps between obstacles using UEVR than I did playing in flat. Chained Together in VR even works seemlessly in online co-op, which the lovely Jim Trinca (playing in flat) helped me demonstrate as we tried our very best to reach the top of Hell itself.

You can watch Jim and I fall for each other on the video player above or, if you'd rather drop a like on the YouTube version, you can find that embedded below these words!

Are tips and guides really essential for Elden Ring newcomers to get good?

The pre and post launch hype behind Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been impossible to ignore, but has it managed to convince any of you 'never-Souls' players to finally give the game a try?

The oft-mention difficulty curve of the Souls series can be an instant turn off for some. I mean, what possible fun could there be in getting your Tarnished butt handed to you every 10 minutes or so? That sounds rubbish! But also, deep down, maybe you just can't shake that feeling that you might be missing out on something incredibly special?

That's how Maddie Cullen felt as she saw our internal chats about Shadow of the Erdtree, so she decided to test out whether or not following tips and guides could help her to embrace the pain and help her get into the game. The impossible architecture, the improbable geography and the way that the levels twist and turn and fold back in on themselves really muddles my head and stops me from being able to visualise the locations properly. Put me in those same places in VR though and suddenly, because it feels like I'm actually there, their spaces make so much more sense. The depth, the distance, the perspective, every visual trick that VR provides makes From's abstract scenery much easier for my brain to understand.

Not only that though, VR also allows me to appreciate the finer details of the game's assets. Little bits of stitching on a robe, the thin whisps of incense rising from a burner, these are things I'd just blunder right past without noticing in flat. Which leads me nicely to today's VR Corner, in which I take a leisurely trot around Elden Rings' Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in VR!

Thanks to the most recent update for Luke Ross' REAL VR mod, I was able to toggle on a 'tourism' mode and become invisible to all the enemies in the Lands of Shadow. That way I could really drink in the visuals and enjoy the scenery of Shadow of the Erdtree without worrying about getting a foot to the face from a Furnace Golem (until I turned tourism mode off specifically for that purpose!).

Would Still Wakes The Deep be better without the monsters?

Still Wakes the Deep is the Dark Souls of Walking Simulators. There are some really poor framerates on show here and, rather annoyingly considering that the game relies on a lot of delicate physical movements, there are some occasional issues with object collision and interaction too.

To be fair to the game, this wonkiness can often work in favour of the shows wacky, clumsy and comical vibe, but I think the control issues mixed with the poor framerates will instantly put off hardcore VR enthusiasts who are only after big, polished products.

Rewatch the highlights from this weekend's showcases

Considering E3 is dead, an awful lot of it happened over the weekend and quite honestly, it feels like this weekend contained some of the best video game 'showcases' in quite a long time.

Summer Game(s) Fest kicked everything off with a bang, but that was followed up by a surprisingly brilliant Xbox Showcase, a heartwarming Wholesome Direct and a bloodsoaked Blumhouse Games Showcase. But who's got time to comb through all of those on a Monday morning when they should be working? Not I, that's for sure. Which is why I very much enjoyed checking out Jim Trinca's, definitive list video of all the best reveals and featured games from this year's 'I Can't Believe It's Not E3' (other opinions are available).

You can watch Jim's video on the player at the top of the page but if you can't see that or would rather watch it on YouTube, you can find it just below these words!

Ghost of Tsushima VR is now a REAL thing thanks to this new mod

Master modder Luke Ross has released yet another update to his REAL VR mod and for the first time in ages it's not for a Ubisoft game!

On this week's VR Corner, I take a look a Luke's flat screen to VR mod for Sucker Punch's epicly beautiful Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut on PC. The video itself shows off sections from the first 90 minutes of the game, which features some graphically immense moments like charging a horse through a barrage of burning arrows and a one-on-one dual fought in an arena full of bright red leaves.

As with all of Luke's REAL VR mods, this one is controlled with a gamepad but, just like the flat game, it's played from a third-person viewpoint only. This is something that wound a lot of people up when I featured his flat to VR mod for Watch Dogs but I honestly have no issues with either of those things. I just enjoy having the option to experience these games with added 6DoF visuals, but I must say that this one did appear to have a lot more of the weird artifacting and asset jittering that seems to be an unfortunate side effect of the Alternate Eye Rendering 2.0 technique that his mods use.

Conscript is a Resident Evil inspired survival horror game set in WWI where the real monster is war

You've got to love Steam Next Fest. The video team has already put together a list of its must-play Steam Next Fest demos, but there's just so many new and exciting demos to try that we couldn't fit them all into one listicle! Well, OK, I guess we could have done, but that would have been one very long list video indeed...

On the video player above (or over on our YouTube channel if you'd prefer), you'll be able to watch today's livestream, where I took a look at the upcoming Steam Next Fest demo for Conscript. Published by Team17, Conscript is a survival horror experience set in the trenches of the Battle of Verdun. While this isn't the first time we've seen a horror game set during the First World War, Conscript still feels rather unique, even though its developer Jordan Mochi admits that he has drawn a lot of inspiration from classic horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

While I love a good retro-inspired horror game as much as the next person, one of the first things I noticed when I played the demo was how slow and clunky the combat was. This is certainly in keeping with games like the first Resident Evil but modern gamers may be put off by what appears to be a very sluggish and unforgiving control scheme. In Conscript you can only shoot, reload and melee attack whilst standing still and I found this very frustrating during the opening 30 minutes of the demo when I had to single handedly hold off a German trench invasion with only a rifle and a shovel. This mainly involved kiting enemies around the trenches until I could get in the right position to shoot at them or bonk them on the head, something that ended up feeling a bit like being chased around a Pac-Man maze by a bunch of Stahlhelm-wearing ghosts.

Skydance's Behemoth could be the colossus Playstation VR2 needs right now

Forget Elden Ring DLC, the only thing I'm excited about this week is my hands-on with the PlayStation VR2 version of Skydance's Behemoth. OK, that's a lie, I am still excited about Shadow of the Erdtree, but playing Behemoth on PSVR2 was the first time that I'd felt truly thrilled by an experience on Sony's headset in what feels like an age.

While Behemoth is also set to land on PC VR when it finally releases sometime this autumn, the PSVR2 port that I played feels like one of the first big budget and original VR releases for the platform since launch title Horizon: Call of the Mountain. With even Sony itself appearing to (inadvertantly perhaps) put the brakes on PS VR2 support recently, this hands-on opportunity was a chance to see the headset shine again, and it really couldn't have come at a better time.

Behemoth has been created by the same team as one of my all-time favourite VR titles, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and it's clear Skydance has cherry-picked the best features from that open-world survival game and boiled them down to fit into this fairly linear action-adventure. That means there's accurate climbing mechanics and a blood-soaked combat system that gives a real feel of weight and heft to your virtual weapons. All this is then backed up with some wonderfully detailed visuals that make full use of the PSVR2's foveated rendering feature. One of the best things about VR is that, when done right, it can make you feel effortlessly cool and powerful. Synapse's telekinesis features are probably the best example of this, along with the flight mechanics in Iron Man VR, but Skydance's Behemoth seems to cram in lots of little gimmicks like these that constantly gave me epic 'wow!' moments during my 40-minute hands-on.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II looks stunning in VR thanks to Praydog's UEVR mod

Greetings all! Sorry for the fairly short VR Corner this week but I'm actually on holiday right now and this, combined with the recent Eurogamer news, meant that I didn't have much time to do a fully fleshed-out VR Corner for you.

I couldn't bear to leave you without the usual Sunday shenanigans though, so I did manage to squeeze in a quick look at Senua's Saga: Hellblade II running in VR, thanks to Praydog's amazing UEVR mod. It's a shorter Corner than usual and there's a bit at the end that wouldn't be there if I'd had the time to go back and work out a fix for the error, so please accept my apologies for the scruffiness of this one!

The game itself is a bit of a graphical powerhouse on PC anyway, so running it in VR is going to be a test of even the beefiest of rigs. But, after a bit of fiddling, I got the game running pretty well on my rig that has an i9 CPU and 4080 GPU and I show off the graphical settings that I used to make it all smooth and stuff in the video above. Oooh I almost felt like I knew what I was talking about when I wrote that bit about the CPU and GPU! This is an impressive number, but did you know there have also been six official Planet of the Apes games? Well, I'm going to guess not because the majority of them have either been bad, boring or broken and ultimately, utterly forgettable.

Join me in today's video (above) as I take you on a retrospective journey through the hairy history of six official Planet of the Apes games that you’ve probably never even heard of.

If you'd prefer (especially if the headline video isn't showing up for you), you can watch my video on the Hairy History of 6 Forgotten Planet of the Apes games over on YouTube.

Despite a few performance issues, the original Prey works really well in standalone VR

It's been a long time since I played the original Prey from Human Head Studios, but I still vividly remember so much of it thanks to how groundbreaking the gravity-defying, portal-hopping gameplay was at the time. There were so many mind-blowing moments as you followed protagonist Tommy Tawodi on the search for his girlfriend Jen through the gigantic and often very goopy interior of an alien space craft. The way the game played with the very concept of 3D space and even your sense of scale was epic to say the least, but how does this all transfer to VR? How does it feel to jump through portals and walk up walls when you're fully immersed in the experience?

Well, that's what I'm investigating in this week's episode of VR Corner, as I finally take Prey's flat screen to VR mod for a spin on the Quest 3. This standalone mod, which was created by a modder named Luboš who utilised some of Team Beef's VR code for Doom3Quest has been available to download on Sidequest for over a year now. Handily, it includes a free demo of the first 90 minutes of the game with the download. This means you can try it out to see if your stomach can handle all the gravity flipping action, even if you don't own the full game.

Featuring full VR controller aiming and roomscale, Prey VR runs fairly well as a standalone app on the Quest 3. As you'll see in the video however, there are a few perfomance issues here and there. Whilst rare, lower framerates are sometimes noticable when looking through large portals that appear in big rooms and, for some reason, especially when Tommy is in spirit form during the spirit-walking tutorial. Other than that there's a few minor graphical hiccups surrounding the portals themselves but it's all forgiveable when you're confronted by the majesty of the rest of the experience.

This new VR mod for Content Warning makes monster hunting feel super immersive

After burning incredibly brightly for a short while, it feels like Content Warning's star might be dimming rather quickly now. One minute there were a million TikToks and streams about it, and the next... well, people seem to be moving on pretty fast. Faster than they did with the game's inspiration, Lethal Company at least.

Talking about Lethal Company, this week's featured flatscreen to VR mod for Content Warning has been created by the same talented modder who made the VR mod for Lethal Company, which we streamed a while back. DaXcess, as they're known in the modding community, has once again created a stunning (and best of all, free!) flat to VR mod for Content Warning that not only adds full 6DoF to the game but also proper motion controls too.

This means you can lean in and inspect absolutely every little detail of the games' chunky graphics, whilst also being able to hold and point the video camera (or any other tools) in any direction you want. It all feels very freeing in a way that flat gaming doesn't and being able to treat the game and its props in a way that you would if you were using them in real life is super immersive; as you'll see in this week's episode of VR Corner (above!).

Just how cosy is Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator?

Are you a cosy game addict? Welcome in and take a seat among your fellow enablers as I, fellow addict Zoe Delahunty-Light, kick off my new weekly series Cozy Corner! This series follows me as I finally try to clear my backlog of 47 (and counting) cosy games in my steam library, and decide whether these games are relaxing enough to warrant the label 'cosy' at all. Cosy games have blown up over the last four years and because of it, there are more to try than ever before, and thus more competing for your attention. I'm going to find the best of the best so tune in for this new weekly series full of blankets, relaxation - I hope - and surprisingly harsh judgement.

Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator is the first game that's being subjected to the cosy interrogation. In it, you are responsible for bringing back life to the dilapidated garden belonging to the previous gardener Robin, and the spirit of the local community as they convene around you, the new gardener. But you're not on your own - Robin is unable to move on while the garden remains uncompleted and neglected, so they'll be there to guide you as you find your green thumbs. From creating bouquets to opening up new sections of the community garden, Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator is dedicated to gradual floral farming with heartfelt story elements. But just how cosy is Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator? Even though the word 'cozy' is in the name, it's time to put it to the test!

London-based indie studio, SFB Games is probably best know for its Nintendo Switch launch title Snipperclips, but its newest release, Crow Country couldn't be any more different. Heavily inspired by PS1 survival horror games in both graphics and gameplay, Crow Country sees you exploring an abandoned theme park in search of its missing owner Edward Crow, and you can watch me play through the opening 90 minutes of the game on the player above!

The games' nostalgia-inducing aesthetics definitely have the potential to feel a bit gimmicky, but they actually work really well and only serve to accentuate the creepiness of the story. The visuals have the same vibe as the pre-rendered backgrounds of PS1 games of old, such as Resident Evil, but Crow Country gives you the freedom to fully rotate the camera. This means you can easily explore all corners of the game's spooky theme park setting for the many items and lore drops that litter the environment. That's not the only quality of life improvement that Crow Country makes over the games that inspired it though, there's even the option to choose a modern control scheme, which is great news for those of us who find old-school tank controls more frustrating than fun to use.

Other standouts I noticed during my first 90 minutes of play time include the excellent audio design that contains sound effects and audio stings that made my skin crawl and a lot of imaginative but fairly simple to solve (so far!) puzzles. This is all wrapped up in a narrative that at first seems rather clear-cut but, by the end of the 90 minute stream at least, begins to hint at some much wierder goings-on with both the theme park and the game's protagonist Mara Forest.

How many of these forgotten Fallout crossovers do you remember?

Recently, because I hate myself, I was browsing Twitter (I’m not calling it X) and I stumbled across an incredible conceptual video from an artist named DEVINK that shows what they imagine a potential Fortnite X Fallout crossover could look like.

This crossover seems like a bit of a no-brainer to me and I wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened in the future, but what about Fallout crossovers from the past? During the pandemic, I would scratch my travelling itches with some nice big sessions on Google Earth VR, where I would retrace my steps from holidays of old or explore new places I've always wanted to go.

But those little imaginary expeditions pale in comparison to being able to actually wander around fully realised virtual worlds as a tourist, which is basically exactly what I did in this week's VR Corner thanks to a brand new update for Luke Ross' REAL VR mod. By the way, REAL stands for 'Reality Enhancement Augmentation Layer' if you've ever wondered!

I've featured plenty of Luke's mods on VR Corner before, but my favourite ones of his are always the ones with open-worlds that feel almost like real places. As a lover of medieval history and swords, I was attracted to Manor Lords from the very first time I heard about it. Manor Lords is a city builder strategy game that has you fostering a thriving medieval village and ushering it into a new dawn filled with trade, farming, and - of course - at least one Manor. After picking it up for myself and getting fully into the medieval ambience thanks to some tavern ambience YouTube videos, I was surprised to find that on peaceful difficulty it could actually be considered a cosy game, just like Stardew Valley and similar farming simulators. Manor Lords also has surprising similarities to Cult of the Lamb, so if you're up for something less cult-like but still with lambs involved in one way or another, look no further.

Describing Manor Lords as a city builder is an oversimplification. It's much more than just putting buildings down and making the good numbers go up - over the seasons you can transform a bundle of tents to a thriving village in a thoroughly organic manner, from putting winding roads through the houses and workshops to planning out which of your fields are going to be fallow from year to year. At peaceful difficulty, Manor Lords really is a slow living cosy medieval game, with some valuable additions that make it novel amongst the typical city builder video game genre.

Don't believe me? Watch our video to see all the reasons Manor Lords should be your next go-to cosy game, or at the very least be in consideration - with a couple of caveats.

I've watched the Fallout Prime series and, like so many others, I have been dragged back into Fallout 4. The only problem is, I've done three playthroughs now - and this makes it hard to enjoy the game when I know how all the quests turn out. Or do I?

Unbeknownst to me there were still some I just hadn't found, so this video is from me to you, for us folks who have played Fallout 4 to death but want to revisit it, as well as to those who are new to Fallout entirely. I've tracked down hidden, rewarding story-related content and missions that you may have missed in the Commonwealth so you can go forth and either enact the golden rule... or completely ignore it.

From helping robots trying to run their own shopping centre to the heebie-jeebies that'll crawl down your spine as you explore the Dunwich Borers Quarry, these are a mix of unmarked locations (ones which will not be found in your Pip-Boy map) and quests that are just plain difficult to begin, with a message-in-a-bottle PSA thrown in there for good luck.

Few games this year have looked as good in action as Harold Halibut, the stop-motion-style adventure game that looks like you're watching something physical, made by human hands.

And you are watching something made by human hands, of course, though not quite how you'd expect. The models shown in-game are based on real clay props, the sets real weathered models. It all fits the rusty, rattly spaceship on which Harold Halibut is set - and fits a very British retro aesthetic.

But reducing the game to a throwback does it a disservice - at least, that's what friend of Eurogamer Jim Trinca from VG247 thinks. In his video here, he celebrates the game's art style. It's not a perfect model - but that's the point.

I played for approximately 90 minutes and it was great to see lots of NPCs in the current iteration of the game as they were completely absent when I first played it in 2018.

Do these Fallout 4 VR mods make the game worth revisiting after the TV show?

The first time I played Fallout 4 VR was in a tiny little booth after Bethesda's 2016 E3 conference. I called my short time with the game 'underwhelming' back then because the whole experience was little more than a stationary shooting gallery with bottles for targets. Even then though, it was still a thrill to feel like I was actually standing next to a real-life Red Rocket gas station.

Fallout 4 VR finally released in December 2017 to fairly positive reviews, even though there was a lot of criticism about the VR implementation and its lacklustre graphics. Despite these faults however, most helmet-heads on PC were thrilled to have the opportunity to play through the entirety of Fallout 4 in virtual reality. Sure there were some corners cut here and there but still, props to Bethesda for even attempting this port in the first place, I wish more developers and publishers would do the same.

In the roughly 6.5 years since Fallout 4 VR's release, enterprising modders have been attempting to improve the vanilla experience one tiny mod at a time. But there are some, like content creator, GingasVR, who have put together huge mod lists that aim to alter the original version of Fallout 4 VR and bring it up to the standards of something like Half Life: Alyx.

How to build Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus in Fallout 4

In my humble opinion - or not so humble if you know me well enough - the Fallout series on Amazon Prime has struck an admirable balance between satire, absurdity, and ultra violence that epitomises its wasteland. Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus are the three archetypes of the characters you'll find in Fallout: the vault dweller, wasteland wanderer, and Brotherhood of Steel follower. So, if you'd rather be those characters rather than just meet them in your adventures, I am here. I've put together a character build for Lucy, the Ghoul, and Maximus so you can recreate the chaos of Amazon's Fallout in Fallout 4.

Please forgive my very poor excuses for these character's lookalikes in the character creator, as it leaves a lot to be desired. However, if you're like me and play Fallout 4 in first-person then you won't see the face that much - so you won't be haunted by these... mimics.

This is specifically for unmodded Fallout 4, we should note, but if you head over to Nexus Mods and have Fallout 4 on the PC I know you'll be able to find Fallout TV show-inspired mods that'll do wonders for these builds... Anyway, let's jingle jangle jingle on together.

So a pretty standard VR Corner then!

Developed by veteran Flat2VR modders Marulu and Streetrat, World of Warcraft VR is a work in progress mod that lets you play World of Warcraft in VR and even experience the world of Azeroth from a first-person perspective too. Thanks to a Bank Holiday Monday and a lengthy trip to the Elder Scrolls Online 10-Year Anniversary Celebration, this week's episode of VR Corner is something of a rush job, I'm afraid. Still, something's better than nothing, right?

And this something is pretty cool to be fair, because master modder Luke Ross has just updated his R.E.A.L. VR mod so that it now works with Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PC! The Horizon Forbidden West portion of this mod is still fairly work-in-progress mind, so there are still a fair few creases to iron out in order to make this feel as polished as some of the other games that work with his mod.

If you want to get an idea of how the game handles in VR at the moment, then do check out this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner in which I play through the opening hour of the game. Controlling Aloy in third-person VR works really well, despite a bit of camera drift caused by scanning targets, and sneaking through the tall undergrowth towards unwary machines is still pretty immersive. Plus, thanks to the third-person camera, you can also easily inspect Aloy's incredibly detailed character model. Shout out to the thread work on her initial outfit, which is stunning!

All the ways Dragon's Dogma 2 has ruined other RPGs for me

It seems that around every corner there's yet another thing Dragon's Dogma 2 does that makes my RPG-addicted self incredibly happy. From how you interact with your companions to forgeries, these are just some of the eight things in Dragon's Dogma 2 has that have utterly ruined other RPGs for me.

I'm a huge fan of RPGs but it took playing Dragon's Dogma 2 for me to realise how much hand holding the majority of AAA RPGs include, and just how empowering it is to be set free from seemingly endless tutorials and NPCs who give me the solution to puzzles within 0.2 seconds of me discovering the puzzle in the first place (God of War Ragnarok, looking at you).

As I've been utterly addicted to the game and have already played it for an unholy amount of time, there are so many things that I'm going to miss when I inevitably play a different RPG. So from unique enemy behaviour to high-fives, these are all the things Dragon's Dogma 2 does that other RPGs don't.

Bumbling around, getting into emergent scrapes with giant enemies one minute and then tossing my more aggravating pawns off of cliff tops the next. But there's nothing that I like doing more in this game than watching the live action meat grilling videos playing out each time I set up camp for the night.

There are eight different types of meat that you can grill in the game and each one has two different live action videos that can play out, depending on whether or not you're doing your grilling during the night or during the day. Except for the Dried Meat and Exquisite Dried Meat that is, those two share their videos for some reason. This means there is a grand total of 14 different videos that feature hot meat action in Dragon's Dogma 2 and, in the video above, I've tried my hand at ranking them from worst to best.

So, give it a click and a watch to find out which meat is the number one treat and which one is utterly offal! Whoever was behind the art and level design of HappyFunland VR absolutely smashed it out of the (theme)park! The detail to the world and its props is top notch, the environmental storytelling is excellent and it often had me laughing out loud and the character design is both imaginative and suitably creepy.

It's a real shame then that the fundamental VR mechanics that tie it all together, plus some really bizarre design choices, cheapen the entire experience altogether. Smooth locomotion but no smooth turn? Horribly garbled, aggravating narrator audio but no subtitles? Clumsy, non-immersive interations? These are just a few things from a long line of annoyances that rob HappyFunland VR of its fast-pass to a must-play VR title.

If you'd like to find out more and see me play through the first hour of the game, please do check out this week's episode of VR Corner (above). They're all as uninspired as Ascendant Infinity and honestly, the word Ascend is the ass end of where you should be looking to find a standout name for a game like this one.

Ascendant Infinity is such a snoozefest to read that my eyes nearly glazed over when I read the invite to the recent hands-on session that I attended. If it hadn't been for the cheesy, 80s sitcom stylised trailer that accompanied the email, I probably would have politely declined it, but you know what? In the end I'm glad I didn't because, as bad as Ascendant Infinity's name is, I had a lot of fun playing two matches of the game's core multiplayer mode, Battle for the Biocore.

Swarm 2 will make you feel like Spider-Man...with guns

Virtual Reality is without a doubt the best way to feel like a superhero without having to actually leave the comfort of your own home and do something dangerous. I've featured a couple of offical titles on VR Corner in the past, like Iron Man VR which nails the feeling of being Iron Man way better than it nailed giving us some varied missions.

Then there was the free movie tie-in Spider-Man: Far From Home which a lot of people enjoyed, but I found to be a broken mess. Thankfully, excellent adventure/puzzle game Yupitergrad came along a year later to give helmet-heads some much more stable swinging, but it still wasn't the true Spider-Man experience everyone wanted.

So, step in Swarm 2, which released this week for Quests 2,3 and Pro. Swarm 2 obviously isn't an offical Spider-Man game but, by giving the player a pair of easy to use grapplehooks, it does allow you to feel the thrills of flinging yourself around gigantic structures at high speed. And you can watch me do just that as I experience the game for the first time in this week's VR Corner!

Playing Ori dev's new Soulsborne, No Rest for the Wicked

Ori and the Blind Forest is well known for its tear-jerker of an intro cutscene so for developer Moon Studios, the dark and damp, gore-soaked world of its next game No Rest for the Wicked, seems like a radical change in direction.

But how well has the studio managed the switch from magical Metroidvania to a swords and sorcery Soulsborne-like? I'm turning this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner up to Eleven with a look at the newly released Quest exclusive, TV tie-in title, Stranger Things VR!

From developers Tender Claws, Stranger Things VR is a dark and arty look into the minds of some of Hawkin's most famous residents as you inhabit the body of the shows mysterious villain Vecna. But is it any good? Find out in this week's epsiode of VR Corner as I play through the first 3 chapters of the game.

So, I'm going to be brutally honest here. Stranger Things VR is a wonderful companion piece for die-hard fans of the show who want more lore, but for your standard helmet-head who just wants a cool new game to play, the first three chapters at least are severely underwhelming.

Ian puts 10 Steam Next Fest VR demos through their paces

Happy Steam Next Fest, Helmet-heads! This week on the Eurogamer Newscast, we discuss the bombshell news that some of Xbox's biggest exclusives are being mulled by Microsoft for release on PlaySation.

Blockbuster games such as Starfield and the upcoming Indiana Jones title could no longer be Xbox exclusives, reports now claim, following whispers that smaller titles such as Hi-Fi Rush were being considered for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. So what has prompted Microsoft to think bigger with its third-party publishing plans? And does this finally mean the console wars are over? (Fat chance.)

Join us as we discuss the long-term factors at play - hardware sales, subscription service growth slowing - and more recent triggers such as the eye-wateringly large purchase of Activision Blizzard and the need to quickly see a return on that investment (also seen, sadly, in the recent decision to cull 1900 Xbox and Activision employees). We also consider Microsoft's next steps after all of this leaked - reportedly, by people within Xbox itself hostile to the very idea of Gears of War on PlayStation.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare III Season 2 Multiplayer Maps Trailer

Season 2 of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is taking you on a trip to three new 6v6 maps. With just a couple of clicks of the mouse, you can now magically add VR support to potentially thousands of flat Unreal Engine games and it's all thanks to God-like VR modder Praydog's UEVR mod.

Praydog's Unreal Engine VR Injector Mod (UEVR) has been in the works for at least a year now and, in the Flatscreen to VR Modding Community at least, the buzz for it has been palpable since it was first announced. But does it actually live up to the hype?

Well, that's where this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner comes in! Check out the video below for an introduction to the mod which includes some short examples of how easy it is to convert flat UE4/5 games to full 6DoF VR and six examples of the mod in action across a variety of different game types. Including, most impressively, Housemarque's incredible shooter Returnal running in first-person VR with added motion controls!

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a solid if unremarkable Metroidvania

It feels like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is still working to win back fans following the mixed reception to its initial reveal earlier this year.

This is an all-new game in the Prince of Persia series with a new main character and stylised art style - something which initially seemed to rub long-term Prince players up the wrong way. But how does it actually play? Eurogamer's Ian Higton has now gone hands-on with three hours of the 2.5D Metroidvania game, and reported back below.

The gist? Ian reckons the game's movement and combat are fun and fluid, while its exploration and puzzles will entice you to keep on playing until you've uncovered the whole map. But - as yet - it doesn't yet rival the best of the Metroidvania genre, or the best of the Prince of Persia brand either.

I still love it, sure, mainly because it does a lot of cool things that other headsets simply cannot. But, after playing Assassin's Creed Nexus VR on the Meta Quest 3, I think I may have finally found have a new contender for the coveted top spot on my list.

While games running natively on the Quest 2 were fine in theory, visually they always looked soft and basic compared to the games that I could play on it when linked to a PC. Plus they always felt like smaller, bite-sized offerings compared to what was on available on other, wired VR platforms. Assassin's Creed Nexus VR running natively on the Quest 3 however feels like a true generational leap (of faith) and, as you'll see in this week's episode of VR Corner, the quality of some of the visuals left me absolutely amazed!

You'll need nerves (and a stomach) of steel to play this Flat2VR mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent!

If there's one thing VR excels in, it's the horror game genre. Traditional flat horror games can be scary, sure, but there's always a safety blanket there. Because you're watching the action play out on a screen in front of you a slight turn of your head will break the illusion. Suddenly you're back in your room, safe from whatever is lurking inside your monitor.

The same cannot be said for VR however. Turn your head in a VR horror game and there'll be no blanket for you, only the possibility of more nightmares come to life, charging at you from out of the shadows...

Which leads me to this week's epsiode of Ian's VR Corner, in which I play a flatscreen to VR mod for perhaps one of the scariest games ever made, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Don't go into Dragon's Dogma 2 expecting it to feel massively different from Dragon's Dogma or Dark Arisen. Despite the dozen years since the original game's launch (Dragon's Dogma 2 is set to arrive for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in early 2024), there's no huge change in gameplay, while the visual style of Capcom's fantasy RPG series also feels familiar.

The game's open world is way more dense in terms of flora and fauna, but its presentation remains similar to that of the original - with its grey, green, brown colour palette used in almost every game released in the early 2010s. And while this was a pre-release build, it did also suffer performance-wise on PS5, with what felt like big frame rate drops during busy battles. I also witnessed a variety of weird bugs involving NPCs and enemies - albeit things that trended towards the funny, meme-worthy side of glitches rather than anything game-breaking.

The original Dragon's Dogma also felt rough around the edges, so seeing these kinds of things in its sequel almost felt in keeping with the series. Dragon's Dogma 2 feels almost like a chaos simulator, where you wander its living world constantly being attacked by a variety of mythical beasties and shouted at by random NPCs. Your three AI pawns run around doing half-wacky and half-actually helpful stuff as they chatter incessantly with you and each other.

You can now play Far Cry 6 from start to finish in VR thanks to this new mod

I've been praying for a proper Far Cry VR game for ages, whether it be a new one or a port of the older games and now, all of a sudden, we're getting loads of Far Cry VR mods thanks to the continued work of the flat to VR modding community!

A couple of months ago I showcased Cabalistic's excellent VR mod for the original Far Cry from 2004 and this has since been updated even further to add full motion controls. Whilst a couple of levels were playable, I've tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum by featuring only the introductory chapter and the first mission in this week's episode of VR Corner, which you can watch just below these words.

The I Expect You To Die series is already one of the most popular escape room-style experiences in VR and this third instalment brings you yet more quality conundrums to Live Or Let Die to.

This new mod brings 6DoF VR to the original Far Cry

As a VR veteran and self-confessed Far Cry fan, a fully VR version of a Far Cry game is always near the top of my wishlist when someone asks me which games I'd love to play in VR.

And now, thanks once again to the Flatscreen to VR modding community, my dreams have been made a reality. Talented modder Cabalistic who previously released a flatscreen to VR mod for Crysis has used that framework to bring 6DoF VR to the very first Far Cry game from 2004 and putting my face inside it has been an excellently nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Check out the video above these words if you'd like to see me put the first portion of the game through its paces in my latest VR Corner episode. It features a look at how the cutscenes play out in VR and there's a couple of big action segments in there too, including an explosive vehicular shootout on some of Far Cry's gloriously golden sand dunes.

Is full-body PSVR2 game C-Smash VRS a smash or a pass?

Thank God for air conditioning. Here in the UK there's a bit of a heat wave going on at the moment and without it there's no way I'd have gone anywhere near my PSVR2 this week, let alone played a full-body immersion VR game like C-Smash VRS.

I realise I'm in the air-con owning minority where I live though, so I can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, launching an intensly physical VR game like this one at this time of year may hurt its sales figures a bit. Which is a shame because C-Smash VRS is a lot of fun. But honestly, it's not fun enough to risk your health for.

Now obviously the above criticism doesn't apply to countries with easy access to aircon and whose houses are built to keep heat out rather than keep it in, that's mainly a European problem. Even still, please do bear in mind that I did feel a bit of sweat run down my face after about 30 minutes of play time, even with my aircon unit set to 20°C.

This new mod brings full VR to classic zombie survival game 7 Days To Die

You've got to love flatscreen to VR modders. They continue to keep PC VR alive and kicking by working tirelessly to produce epic VR conversions of some of gaming's greats, and it's all seemingly done in their own time for little to no financial reward. Aside from maybe the occasional Patreon subscription that is.

Case in point are talented modding due Necro and Kaaliba, who will soon be unleashing a brand new flatscreen to VR mod for the much-loved zombie survival game, 7 Days to Die (no Patreon yet but one is planned). I was given an early preview build of their mod to try out for this week's VR Corner and you can watch me put it through its paces in the video player above (or on YouTube).

For those unfamiliar with 7 Days to Die, all you need to know is that this is a hardcore survival game with an undead twist. At almost 10 years old now, 7 Days to Die is regarded as a classic in its genre and it is well known for its increasingly brutal gameplay that only gets more intense the longer you stay alive.

The Crew Motorfest is Ubisoft's attempt to overtake Forza Horizon

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if that's the case, Playground Games must surely be blushing quite a lot right now. After going hands-on with a press demo for The Crew Motorfest, I can safely say that Ubisoft's upcoming open-world racing game shares a heavy dose of DNA with the popular Forza Horizon series.

In my preview video (above or on YouTube), you can hear my thoughts on the game based on the short demo I played through last week. Although when I say 'played', I really mean 'drove around like an a-hole, crashing into everything for science'. The demo itself kicked off with a vehicular montage that, just like in the recent Forza Horizon games, sees you jumping between different vehicles as you race around eye-catching locations from the games' open-world map.

Rather than being let off the leash to explore the gorgeous looking island of O'ahu, Hawaii though, I was only allowed to try out a couple of fixed tracks on a playlist of my choice. The available playlists included Vintage Garage, which gave me the chance to race classic cars, the Legendary Playlist that featured supercars aplenty and the Motorsports playlist which had a slightly more focussed racing experience aimed at more serious racing fans. In the end, I chose to try out the neon-tastic Made In Japan playlist, but only because I wasn't given the option to play my favourite playlist, Offroading Addict which, based on the intro montage, featured longer, open tracks and some super cool stunt jumps.

Synapse is shaping up to be the next must-buy game for PSVR2

Ever wanted to feel like a Sith Lord with a gun? Because thanks to Synapse, the upcoming PSVR2 action shooter from nDreams, you soon will! Or at least that's how I felt playing through a short demo of Synapse for this week's episode of VR Corner (above or on YouTube).

In that video, you'll be able to watch 12 minutes worth of Synapse gameplay as I use telekiniesis to crush enemies and explode red barrels with one hand and shoot them to smithereens with a gun held in the other. This delicious dual-wielding combo works really well and, if you've ever played nDreams' previous VR shooter, Fracked, you'll have a good idea of how fluid the shooting mechanics are here.

The smooth simplicity of Synapses' gunplay means that you're able to effortlessly utilise its other big gameplay mechanic, telekinesis. Thanks to the PSVR2's eye-tracking functionality, you merely need to look at an object that you want to hurl and then, with a squeeze of the trigger and a flick of your wrist, off it goes - into the sky or into an enemies face. It's up to you.

All available PSVR2 horror games so far, ranked from worst to best

As a huge lover of horror games, I believe that there is no better way to experience them than in VR. With that in mind, I’ve decided to rank all 12 currently available PSVR2 horror games from worst to best. This way all you fellow horror-heads out there will be able to know which VR nightmares to embrace with your face and which to avoid like a hungry alien on Sevastopol station.

You'll find the video version of this list just above these words if you want to watch some lovely trailer gameplay while I natter over the top of them. In that video I've also judged these PSVR2 horror games on how scary they are too so, if you'd like to hear approximately 35 fart sound effects, this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner is the place to go. Enjoy!

There was a lot of hype behind the recently released horror-puzzle game Hello Neighbour VR: Search and Rescue, but unfortunately it launched onto PSVR2 in such a terrible state that it’s currently almost impossible to complete thanks to a catalogue of game breaking bugs and progression issues. Not only that though, it also has incredibly poor performance and the lack of some of the most basic VR functionality going. I mean, no smooth turn option at all? It's an admirable design choice that I hope becomes way more commonplace and, despite the fact that Humanity's VR mode is little more than an optional novelty, its inclusion is still hugely appreciated by the VR community.

Now, if you've already read through Chris Donlan's wonderful review, you'll know that he was only able to test out the flat screen version of Humanity. The reverse is true for this week's VR Corner though (above). I haven't had a chance to try out pancake Humanity yet as I've been exclusively playing the VR mode on PSVR2 (Humanity can also be played in PC VR).

For those who aren't aware, Humanity puts you in the paws of a ghostly Shiba Inu dog who must guide an endless stream of humans from one side of a hazardous environment to the other. Those heady, hazy days spent huddled around a small TV as me and my pals chatted nonsense and competed for high scores to the tunes of the game's punk rock soundtrack were so carefree and full of laughter.

It feels like those days of shoulder-to-shoulder pass-the pad action are long gone now though, and they're something that I'm not sure modern generations will ever get to experience in the way that I did. You know, what with that there speedy internet and all the other futuristic nonsense we have now.

But of course with every loss caused by futuristic nonsense comes a gain, and this particular gain is virtual reality, which is something that has allowed VR Skater to be a thing that exists. VR Skater is a VR skateboarding game (obviously) that does a very good job of translating that ever so moreish gameplay loop of a Tony Hawk's game into a virtual reality experience and for this week's episode of VR Corner (above) you can watch me play through a preview build of the upcoming PSVR2 port.

Propagation: Paradise Hotel is a surprisingly good VR horror game with an old-school Resi vibe

A VR horror game that's not set in a mental asylum? There was a time years ago when I played a lot of fighting games. The sort of sessions where you'd get together with a bunch of friends, huddle around a screen and take turns passing around controllers in unofficial mini-tournaments. If you weren't up, you'd be heckling the current players or just chatting amongst yourselves. No-one was an expert, there were no arcade sticks in sight, and - in the interest of full transparency - there was a fair bit of button bashing going on. It was so much fun, but no-one playing was going to win any actual ranked battles any time soon.

So that brings me to a question: can a lapsed and fairly casual fighting game fan find things to enjoy with Street Fighter 6? Well, after recently spending a couple of hours with the game, my answer would probably be yes, yes you can.

Street Fighter 6 isn't shy about letting you know it's keen to welcome new players with open and cartoonishly muscled arms. Let's be honest, buying into a fighting game if they aren't already very much your thing is a hard sell, and Street Fighter in particular isn't the kind of game many people play casually - the franchise has been very much focused on its hardcore community for some time now. But it's clear from this latest upcoming offering that Capcom has realised that it can't depend on the same community of fans forever without reaching out to potential new players. Thus, a lot of Street Fighter 6's new features are made with those curious about fighting games but too intimidated to try in mind.

This is all thanks to the recent release of Team Beef's JK XR mod, a standalone OpenXR port of Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

If you played the original game, you'll be right at home here because this out of this world port puts the entirety of Kyle Katarn's 2002 adventure into first person VR, with motion controls. That's right, you can shoot blasters, swing lightsabers and use Force powers all with the power of your upper body. Just like a real Jedi!

There are a couple of things to bear in mind though. The first is that JK XR is currently only available on the SideQuest app for the Quest II and Pico4, something that PC VR and OG Quest owners may feel is a bit Bantha poodoo. Secondly, although JK XR is free to download you will need to own a copy of the original game on Steam in order to play, which is currently about £7.19.

Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive: a closer look at the path tracing upgrade

Update: We've just added to our Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive video coverage with a new Night City tour captured entirely with the new upgrade at 4K, 60 frames per second, using an RTX 4090 at 4K resolution with DLSS performance mode. Check it out!

We've opted not to use frame generation here, mainly because it requires v-sync to be disabled, which would add some ugly tearing to the captures. V-sync can be forced at the control panel level, but the RT Overdrive upgrade really doesn't like it. Thankfully, for much of the game - especially the exteriors - the RTX 4090 has enough brute force grunt to sustain 60 frames per second.

We'll be adding further reporting based on in-depth testing of the new upgrade, along with a range of graphics card benchmarks, but what I can share now is that while the game obviously runs best on RTX 40-series cards, 30-series GPUs can still produce a decent experience. For example, the RTX 3080 10GB can run it at between 40-60 frames per second at 1440p resolution using the DLSS balanced mode. More to come then, but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy the new video.

The Last Worker's all-star cast brings a shine to its anti-capitalist satire but the gameplay is a chore

Before I start talking about my time with The Last Worker, I feel I should preface this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner with a couple of points.

Firstly, the game's publisher Wired Productions should be absolutely praised for not only making The Last Worker available to play in both flat-screen and VR modes, but also its upcoming Lemmings-like puzzler Tin Hearts too. If this trend were to be continued by the majority of publishers and developers, the world of VR gaming would be a much busier and better place and the sooner other studios and software houses follow the example set by Wired the better.

Secondly, my impressions below, and in this week's VR Corner above, are only based on approx 2 hours of gameplay and I was feeling rather ill with what could possibly be Covid (although I'm still testing negative) at the time of recording. Perhaps that's why I didn't seem to enjoy The Last Worker as much as other reviewers did, I don't know, but it's certainly possible that the gameplay could markedly improve after this point.

Endless Dungeon shows promise but its steep learning curve may alienate casual roguelite fans

UPDATE 31st March 2023: Since publication of this piece, SEGA has been in touch to clarify a few things about Endless Dungeon's shared progression.

"Any story progress that you get with the hero that you are playing in a multiplayer game you do indeed get to keep on the main game. Scavenging my way through the mini open worlds of post apocalyptic New Orleans was super immersive and the way that the virtual weapons had a feeling of heft and weight to them brought a great sense of realism to the proceedings.

Playing that game truly felt like I was starring in my very own episode of the TV show and it was this feeling that inspired my classic VR Corner video series 'The Walk-Ian Dead'. The Walk-Ian Dead spanned three episodes before it got cruely cancelled due to criminally low viewing figures and it took place during the first few hours of the first game. Thanks to the long-awaited release of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution on PSVR2 however, I've brought that series back for a special one off episode of The Walk-Ian Dead Season 2 that you can above these words.

In it, you can watch over 30 minutes of gameplay taken from the PSVR2 version of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution, all accompanied by some wacky roleplaying courtesy of me.

Ian and Aoife go head-to-head to see who will yelp the most in Switchback VR

After a slight delay, PSVR2 launch title The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR is finally here, but just how scary is this horror-themed rollercoaster ride? To put it to the test, Aoife and I popped along to Supermassive Games to try out the third level of Switchback VR which is set onboard the SS Ourang Medan, the spooky ship from the very first Dark Pictures game, The Man of Medan.

So who will yelp the most? The VR veteran (me) or the first time PSVR2 user (Aoife)? There's only one way to find out, and that's to watch this week's episode of VR Corner, which you can find above these words. Word of warning, some of the screams do get quite loud, but make sure you stick around until the end of the video for the yelp compilation. Aoife's rendition of Dancing on the Ceiling needs to be seen to be believed!

If you don't already know, Switchback VR is the spiritual successor to Rush of Blood, Supermassive's excellent launch title for the original PSVR. Rush of Blood was one of my favourite games to play when the PSVR first released and as such I had pretty high hopes for Switchback VR but unfortunately, this new game failed to live up to the hype that I had built up for it in my head.

The first five hours of Dead Island 2 are a bloody good time

So here's a funny story. Thanks to YouTube's recent tightening of restrictions, the last time I previewed Dead Island 2 the video that I made was age-gated as soon as it was published thanks to the extreme gore on show. OK, so maybe its not that funny because I worked super late into the night to get the video ready for a crazy embargo and in the end it was a huge waste of time because hardly anyone watched it.

Which is why, my lovely friends, you will see a lot of pictures of my cats edited into my brand new preview video above. What better way to censor a video than by filling it with cats, eh?

Seriously though, the gore in Dead Island 2 is on another level to anything else I’ve seen in a video game. The procedural way that the zombies fall apart as you hit, melt, shock and burn them really has to be seen to be believed as it’s both gruesome and glorious at the same time. I’ve broken down everything I found interesting in a new video on the channel, which you can check out above.

Of particular interest is the new focus given to your knife - born out of a desire from the developers to reinvent the QTE-heavy knife fight with Krauser in the original game - and the ability to stealth past enemies now, which may come in handy as Leon and Ashley try to navigate through the castle and its nightmarish cultists and Garrador enemies.

Ian's top 11 PSVR2 launch games that you should play right now

The PSVR2 is finally here and by now, hundreds of thousands of gamers out there will be sporting lovely red imprints on their faces from the headsets visor, and/or brand new wounds on their hands from accidentally punching furniture and walls in VR. Sort of...

If you live in the UK you're going to have to wait until the 22nd of February to get your hands on your much anticipated, pre-ordered PS VR2 headset. But, much like how people around the world celebrate New Years Eve at different times, the release of the PS VR2 is actually rolling out across the globe in accordance with humanity's long established time zones.

We've already got our PS VR2 though so we're allowed to skip some of that waiting and start streaming PS VR2 gameplay from 1pm GMT today, which is when Sony's headset starts launching somewhere near the equator in the Central Pacific Ocean! (This could be wrong, I'm bad with geography and maps and thinking.)

Watch Ian unbox the PlayStation VR2 ahead of its launch later this month

Surprise! To play the mod for yourself, all you'll need are a copy of the original Half-Life 2 and of course the free Half-Life 2 VR mod. I’m back once again with another buyers guide for those of you out there who are planning on picking up the PSVR 2 on launch day. In last week’s VR Corner, I listed off the 7 best launch titles that complete VR beginners could use to gently introduce themselves to VR without the fear of a doing a chunder on their carpets.

This week's Corner however is for experienced VR enthusiasts. People who have played a fair amount of VR before and feel confident enough to do some first person viewpoint adventuring and play VR games at a much faster pace. The following 7 launch titles are, in my opinion, games that will give you the most jaw-dropping VR experiences possible with your brand new headset.

Just as a heads-up, the video above was produced before Sony dropped the final PSVR 2 launch title list, so I mention a bit in there about not knowing all the games yet. Thankfully this news doesn't really change my suggestions in the following list, but I can also highly recommend picking up Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite on launch if you want some more spectacular VR visuals.

Take a look at Atomic Heart's brutal combat, open world and erotic robots in 11 minutes of new gameplay

Early gameplay snippets of Atomic Heart looked almost too good to be true, with surreal scenes of robotic madness that seemed far too gorgeous to have been created by a tiny team of unknown developers. Was it all a hoax? I certainly wasn't the only person wondering that when the game was first announced back in 2018.

A lengthy production time hit by multiple delays meant that many doubted the game would never see the light of day. But I can now say with confidence that Atomic Heart is totally real and that we've played it. Well, Zoe Delahunty-Light has anyway!

Last week Zoe went hands-on with Atomic Heart in a four hour preview session and you can hear her thoughts about the game, and watch 11 minutes worth of new gameplay, in her preview video below.

Here are the 7 best PSVR 2 launch titles to play if you're new to VR

With the impending release of Sony's PSVR 2 headset, there are sure to be plenty of people out there who are about to indulge in the wonders of virtual reality for the very first time. If that sounds like you, then you're in for a massive treat because VR is amazing, but if you want to get the most out of it, you will need to learn to walk before you can run.

Jumping straight into an extreme VR experience like Resident Evil Village might sound like a good idea (I mean, who doesn't want to check out Lady D in VR?), but playing first-person locomotion games like one that can be a very overwhelming experience for first timers and it's one that can easily lead to a nasty case of VR motion sickness.

So in today's episode of VR Corner (above) I'll be taking a look at the 7 best PSVR 2 launch titles that you should buy if you’re new to VR. These games may not be the most exciting launch titles on offer but, if you want to train your brain so that you can become an unstoppable VR machine in the shortest time possible, you should definitely think about easing yourself in with a few of these first. At CES 2023, Sony's Jim Ryan confirmed that there will be over 30 titles available for the headset on launch, including some new, big name announcements like Beat Saber and the PSVR 2 exclusive, Gran Turismo 7.

There are however way more games than that in development for the PSVR 2 at the moment and I've gathered together as many of them as I could find for this week's episode of VR Corner (above).

Ian's top ten best PSVR games of all time

Seasons greetings one and all! Welcome to the final ever instalment of my Top Ten PSVR games lists for Ian’s VR Corner. Since about 2018, I’ve been creating Christmas Top Ten lists for my favourite PSVR games of the year but this year's is going to be a bit different because this is the year that the PSVR died. Sort of.

Due to the impending launch of the PSVR 2 very few PSVR games of note were released this year so, in the video above, I say goodbye to Sony’s old faithful headset by listing off my Top Ten favourite PSVR games of all time. Stretching from the headset's launch in 2016 right up until now, the following list contains the top ten titles that have brought me the most joy over the years. Obviously this is completely my opinion so, if I’ve missed out on your favourite PSVR game ever, please do share the love for it in the comments below.

10 - Blood and Truth

Hubris is an undeniably gorgeous VR adventure but its beauty is only skin deep

Playing the Early Access build for Hubris for this week's episode of VR Corner (above) was a great lesson in not judging a book by its cover.

I quickly fell in love with this brand new VR survival adventure game thanks to its incredibly gorgeous visuals and simple-to-grasp yet satisfyingly speedy movement schemes. Oh, and also the weirdly penis-y rope-bridge things that made me laugh until I cried.

Unfortunately it's not all sunshine and roses though. The gorgeous visuals of the games' opening section are soon replaced by standard, gloomy, sci-fi corridor interiors, and this robs the game of its 'wow' factor quite significantly. The core gameplay can be rather simplistic and repetitive too, with big pacing issues appearing due to forced scavenger hunts and lengthy periods where you have to stand around and listen to other people talk.

Here's every death animation in The Callisto Protocol

Before its launch, The Callisto Protocol sold itself on its gory content, and especially its visceral death animations, but how grotesque could one game really be?

Well, Zoe Delahunty-Light has carried out the very grim task of finding every single scene in which the protagonist, Jacob Lee (and a few others) gets unalived by the game's blood-thirsty Biophage enemies.

Do be warned though, if you do watch Zoe's video (above), you will probably end up on a list somewhere, although at least Zoe will already be there to keep you company.

Here's a look at pretty much every confirmed PSVR 2 title announced so far

This week Sony announced the release date and the hefty price tag of its new virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR2.

As a dedicated helmet-head, I figured that Sony would be aiming for a price point somewhere around that of a PS5 so the figures it quoted as pre-order prices didn't shock me too much. I've gone hands-on with the PSVR 2 in the past, so I know that it's a high quality piece of kit and, with the addition of the Sense controllers in the package, that lofty price seemed about right to me.

What didn't sit too well with me however, was the fact that the base PSVR 2 bundle seems to come with literally no games. At the time of writing this, Sony hasn't mentioned anything about a PlayStation VR Worlds style demo disc or download code being included in the packaging for the base bundle like it was for the original PSVR. With the understandable but disappointing lack of backwards compatibility for the original PSVR library, this can only be seen as a negative to any potential new adopters of the tech.

We've played The Callisto Protocol

We've spoken at length to Glen Schofield about it and seen impressive gameplay demos of it, but now we've finally been able to play The Callisto Protocol - one of the biggest games of what's left of 2022, and certainly its goriest.

A recent hands-on demo treated us to 90 minutes of action, and subjected us to so many ways for protagonist Jacob Lee to succumb to the biophage enemy you're up against. There's a lot to unpack, so Ian and Zoe - with the assistance of lovely producer Richard Smith - have pieced together this video with six things you need to know about The Callisto Protocol.

It's not really too long until you'll get to sample The Callisto Protocol for yourself, as it's coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series S/X and PC on December 2. Which is terrifyingly soon.

That's exactly what I did in this episode of VR Corner (above) though and, to be honest with you, the consequenses are nowhere near as bad as the Shelby's make them out to be. In fact, I had a pretty good time!

Earlier this week, I was granted access to a press demo of Peaky Blinders that allowed me to smoke my way through the first few levels of the game. And I do mean smoke in the literal sense because, as you'll see in my video, you can spawn and smoke as many virtual cigarettes as you can fit into your lungs. Cough.

Just like with Maze Theory's previous TV tie-in, Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, Peaky Blinders: The King's Ransom is a superfan's dream come true. It gives you the ability to inhabit the world of your favourite TV show, interact with the cast, visit familiar locations and, most importantly, feel like you yourself are a part of the story.

This new flatscreen to VR mod turns Neon White into the perfect 'just one more go' VR game

I've been playing VR for a very long time now so my legs are pretty sturdy, but when legendary flatscreen to VR modder Raicuparta approached me with a preview build of his Neon White VR mod, I must admit I was a little apprehensive.

Surely a lightning-fast game like that would push me over the edge? I thought. But, oh my, how wrong I was. Not only was playing Neon White in VR a completely comfortable experience (for me - newcomers to VR beware!) but it also felt like the perfect 'just one more go' VR game.

Playing Neon White in virtual reality was my first ever experience with the game, flat or not, and it honestly felt like a perfect fit for the medium. You can watch me demonstrate how this mod affects the gameplay of Neon White in this week's episode of VR Corner, which features me swearing my way through a good chunk of the levels from Mission 3.
