Pokémon Go Community Day list, August 2024 time and date, and all previous Community Day Pokémon and moves

Everything you need to know about the monthly Pokémon Go event.

The Pokémon Go Community Day is a reoccurring, monthly event highlighting a specific Pokémon that encourages players to get out and play together worldwide.

Each event will see increased spawns of the Pokémon for a limited time, and give them an exclusive Community Day move for their final evolution - and several other bonuses you can take advantage of during the event itself.

This page features not only the next Community Day date and time and highlighted Pokémon, but also a Community Day list of all previous events and their respective exclusive moves in Pokémon Go.

What is Community Day in Pokémon Go?

Community Day usually takes place on one weekend day every month and lasts a total of three hours.

As well as increasing spawns of the highlighted Pokémon, there are bonuses during that period of time - such as double XP, Stardust or Lure Modules - as additional incentives to get out there and playing, including the highlighted Pokémon having an increased chance of being shiny, and the ability to reach the highlighted Pokémon's evolution an exclusive move.

It's a great way to get resources and a rare version of the highlighted Pokémon, but it's as the name suggests, is a great way to team up with other players.

Community Days are a great opportunity to raid and trade with others - at a responsible and safe distance, of course.Watch on YouTube

You may find other Pokémon Go players will be out and about with you, which might make it easier to co-ordinate completing Raids or doing Trades, so keep that in mind during the period.

The Shared Skies Season is here! Go Fest 2024 may have been and gone, but you can still play around with the Fusion mechanic. Meanwhile, ticket holders can finish Go Fest 2024: A Shadowy Caper and The Dusk Settles. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

Exclusive move for evolutions: Hydro Cannon (Water-type Charged Attack) for Primarina

From this Community Day and onwards, Primarina will be able to learn Sparkling Aria - a Water-type Charged Attack.

Bonus Raids: From 5pm to 10pm on the Community Day, you'll be able to battle Brionne in four-star raids. If you defeat one of these Pokémon in a four-star raid, then Popplio will appear around the Gym which hosted it for 30 minutes and will have the same increased shiny rate as those which appeared during the Community Day.

These raids can not be joined using a Remote Raid Pass.

How useful is this Community Day?

The main attraction of this Community Day for longterm Pokémon Go players is the release of shiny Popplio. Thanks to shiny rates being increased for Community Day events, everyone should be able to find at least one shiny Popplio quite easily. Though you'll most likely encounter even more if you partake in a good amount of the event. Once you have a shiny Popplio, you can evolve it into a shiny Brionne and Primarina.

Even without this new shiny form, however, Popplio's Community Day is going to be useful due to the double catch XP bonus alone. Thanks to this, you'll be able to rake in a good amount of XP (even more if you use a Lucky Egg) and maybe even increase your level if you're really lucky.

When it comes to the Go Battle League, this Community Day has the potential to shake up where Primarina sits in the Water-type rankings. The introduction of both Hydro Cannon and Sparkling Aria could easily make it a stronger Water-type counter! Though we'll have to wait to see how Sparkling Aria works in Pokémon Go as this move currently isn't in the game to be sure... Still, even without these Water moves, Primarina is still one of the best non-Shadow, Legendary nor Mega Evolved Fairy-type counters in the game, sitting beneath Togekiss and Gardevoir in the rankings.

Finally, this Community Day is great for newcomers as always. Popplio can be hard to find since its a starter Pokémon and even more so at the moment as its not in any egg pools. Due to this, you might not have Popplio or its evolutions in your Pokédex - a problem this Community Day can easily solve.

Pokémon Go's next Community Day Classic: August Community Day Classic date and time explained

The Community Day Classic events in Pokémon Go highlight past Community Day Pokémon and, alongside a host of bonuses, offers you the chance to get Pokémon with exclusive attacks you might have missed.

Here's everything you need to know about August's Community Day Classic:

Highlighted Pokémon: Beldum

Date: Sunday 18th August

Time: 2pm to 5pm (local time)

Bonus 1: Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours

Bonus 2: Incense activated during the event will last for three hours

Bonus 3: 1/4 hatch distance for any eggs placed in Incubators during the event hours

Bonus 4: Pokémon photobombing Go Snapshot

Bonus 5: Field research tasks with rewards including Bagon encounters, Stardust and Great Balls

Bonus 6: PokéStop Showcases

Exclusive moves for evolution (Metagross): Meteor Mash (Charged Steel-type attack)

How useful is this Community Day Classic?

This Community Day Classic is the perfect event for anyone looking to add a powerful Steel-type Pokémon for their team, because Metagross, Beldum's final evolution, is one of the strongest Steel Pokémon in the game. Admittedly, it has been knocked off its throne of 'Top Steel-type' by the recently released Dusk Mane Necrozma. Yet, this Pokémon can only be obtained by Fusion - a new mechanic released as part of Go Fest 2024 - and, due to this, is quite hard to obtain at the time of writing. For this reason, Metagross is still a great Pokémon to have in your team and its exclusive move has the potential to make it even more dangerous.

Beldum's Community Day Classic is, like all Community Day events, the perfect time to add a new shiny to your collection. This is all due to Beldum having increased shiny odds throughout the event hours, so it's far easier to find the shiny Steel-type. You can then evolve shiny Beldum into a shiny Metang and shiny Metagross if you so choose. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and catch a shiny Beldum with perfect IVs...

Finally, this Community Day is a good day to hatch a load of eggs as the 1/4 hatch distance reduction makes it far easier to open them up. (Especially if you've had some 10km or 12km eggs hanging about in your storage for a while.) Just remember that this bonus is only applied to eggs you place in Incubators between 2pm to 5pm (local time), so it's a good idea to hatch the egg you currently have in your infinite-use Incubator to ensure you take full advantage of this bonus.

How to prepare for Pokémon Go Community Day

First of all, the secret allure of Community Day is the introduction of a shiny version of the highlighted Pokémon, which will have a boosted rate during the event. That, combined with the increased spawns, makes it easy to get a a handful of shinies across the six hours.

Remember, unlike high IV Pokémon, shinies don't appear in the same place for everyone like high-IV Pokémon - there's a random chance of each one you encounter could be a shiny. If you're struggling, try 'shiny checking', by tapping a Pokémon, then backing out without catching, then moving on to the next.

Second, there will be bonus Field Research. Community Days also have their own special Field Research tasks based on the specific Pokémon the day is highlighting. The rewards are usually just consumable items - Berries and the like - but it's an additional thing to complete as you play.

Third, every Community Day offers 3-Hour Lures. This is the perfect day to catch as many Pokémon as physically possible, and with the increased spawn rate, increase your chances of finding a shiny.

The best way to take advantage of these bonuses is to find a set of PokéStops that are in quick walking distance or one another. You can then set up a Lure Module in one (or in multiple) and then walk between the PokéStops; taking advantage of the Lure and ensuring that you don't run out of Poké Balls or Berries.

It's also an ideal time to experiment with either a Glacial Lure, Mossy Lure or Magnetic Lure Modules. These special lures attract a specific type of Pokémon depending on your chosen Lure. If you wanted to catch Water or Ice Pokémon, for example, then you would use a Glacial Lure Module. These specialised Lure Modules cost 200 PokéCoins from the in-game shop..

Watch on YouTube

There are also specific bonuses for each Community Day, from reduced hatching distance to increased Stardust and XP. Even without the bonuses, remember Community Day is an opportunity to catch a lot of creatures in a short space of time, useful if you want to get through the backlog of Eggs in your roster, or put on a Lucky Egg or Star Piece to increase your gains from catches.

Remember, if there is a deduced hatch rate, you only get bonus on Eggs you put into incubators during Community Day bonus hours. If you have an egg in an incubator before the event starts, it's hatch distance still stay the same. Also, if you don't hatch it before the event ends, it will stay that reduced distance until it does - so worth cramming one last one in before the event finishes!

Also before the event itself, it may also be worth stockpiling Pinap Berries and Great or Ultra Balls. The Pinaps will increase your Candy gains - useful for evolving and powering up after the event ends - and you can really burn through Poké Balls over the course of the event. If you run out, then spin PokéStops or complete the newly added Field Research that appears.

Finally, make sure you evolve the highlighted Pokémon to its third evolution to get an exclusive move. More of this in the following section...

Pokémon Go Community Day list: All exclusive moves list and how they work

Every featured Pokémon during a Community Day weekend will offer an exclusive move when evolved to its final evolution.

Not only are these exclusive to these weekends, but they are more often than not the best move their third evolution can offer, and can propel them up the meta.

You have two hours after the Community Day ends to evolve the Pokémon to get their move, so don't worry about having to sort through your collection during the six hour window.

If you miss out on evolving the Pokémon once Community Day weekend is over to get the exclusive move, don't panic - you can use an Elite TM, or wait until December, where a special weekend will give you another chance to catch and evolve that previous year's Community Day Pokémon.

Pokémon Go Community Day Classic list: All exclusive moves list

Community Day Classic events in Pokémon Go highlight a past Community Day Pokémon and, just like the regular event, offers you a chance to get a Pokémon with an exclusive attack.

The rules for earning this exclusive move are exactly the same too - you must reach the final evolution for the chosen Pokémon and said evolution must take place during the event or within the first two hours after it ends.

These moves may not always be the best attack for this Pokémon, but, if want it and miss out on the event, you can always use an Elite TM on the final evolution to teach them the move.
